For now, it appears, as though there will be no drilling for oil in the ANWR, at least this year. In one of the most under-reported story of this House’s session, the moderate GOP’s forced the provision in this years Budget Bill that would have paved the way for drilling to be dropped. CNN does have a blurb in their Politics section, but this didn’t make the aircast last night on any of the major news networks.

This is definately a victory for environmentalists, and will also go a little ways into smoothing over relations with Canada, which opposed the measure for a number of reasons, including, but not limited to, the migratory habits of a herd of caribou, who provide a vital food source for Candian aboriginies.
