Join Store Clubs

July 28th, 2006 · 1 Comment

Joining dining or store clubs can really be a beneficial thing. Peronally I belong to a few, the one I’ll talk about today is Rock Bottom Brewery’s Mug Club. I’ve been a Mug Club member for a while, though I don’t go to Rock Bottom often (despite it being right next to work). For my birthday (which is this Sunday, if you were thinking of buying me goodies) they sent me a postcard with a coupon for a free appetizer or desert. Also, a benefit to the Mug Club is that you generally get a 20oz Pint of beer instead of a 16oz pint.

So the appetizers are not cheap, my friends and I got the Titan Toothpicks which are a chicken flauta kind of appetizer that are superb. They generally run nearly $10, so bam, $10 of the bill, just for signing up to this club. Then, after the waiter ran my Mug Club card at the end of the lunch he said it was my 5th visit and that I could get a free Beer Glass from the gift shop if I show them my receipt. Cost of glass, $5. So just like that, for doing nothing but signing up and having my stuff ready, I saved $15 on a lunch that cost just over $20 with tip.

    Hello from Jargon Chicago Magazine,

We are a new online culture and style magazine focused on Chicago. We like to think that we successfully mix content with wit in our effort to explore all the unique characteristics of our city. However, we need help. We need people with more interests, in more neighborhoods, and with more perspectives on the City.

Having read your posted writing, we think you would be a good fit at the magazine. We can’t offer any kind of compensation at this time (because we aren’t making a profit at the moment). But we are in the middle of a PR/marketing campaign that should change that, and paying our writers will be one of our first priorities. However, we think that writing for us will be a fun experience despite the lack of compensation, and it’s one more way to get your voice out to people on the Internet.
