Mommy, your getting fat!

November 21st, 2007 · No Comments

I know I usually do a Thursday post lately about a childhood story, but since I’ll be at my parents house this weekend and largely without internet access, I figure I’ll grace you all today with one. Also, I apologize if I don’t email you back after post a comment, my ISP is being a jerk and the emails from Wordpress aren’t coming through, so I have been emailing people back when I check to see if there are comments.

With Frema about to pop out her first wee one, I might as well grace you with a story about when my mom was pregnant with my youngest brother. Really, its a short story.

When I was little I used to wake up in the middle of the night and go sleep next to my parents bed. Don’t really know why, but I did. As I’m sure most of you mothers out there will attest, though I will never have personal experience with this, that you end up waking in the night and nearly have to cross your legs to keep from dribbling on the way to the bathroom to let the rush from your crushed bladder loose.

Well, my mom was no different. Except there was a 50/50 chance of a 4 year old being on the ground next to where you sleep. So mom would regularly step on me as she would climb out of bed in the middle of the night. This didn’t seem to bother me too much and she didn’t get too bent out of shape about it either. Me, I would have raised hell if my kid kept intentionally putting himself under foot in the middle of the night when I’m already not full coherent.

Alas, I kept doing this, and every so often, being the thoughtful lad that I was, would tell me mom, “Gee mom, you’re really gaining weight!” Now, we all know it was true, but still, not the kind of thing you want to hear is it? Ahhh, from the lips of babes. Anyway, this continued pretty much throughout mom’s pregnancy. I don’t remember how it worked when mom finally went into labor, because I know my brother and I didn’t goto the hospital, but come the end of July we had another addition to our family, the final addition coming from mom actually.

So that is my story for the day, its short, and really not all that funny, but there it is. Now, if only Frema will let me relive the childhood and step on me when I have lunch with her and Useless Clutter over the Holiday weekend.

Hope you all have safe travels and a fun Thanksgiving!
