Hello 2008, Goodbye 2007. Really 2007, go fuck yourself. Overall, 2007 was a pretty shitty year, between landlord issues, baseball season, and a host of other issues. Lets just say that things have got to be able to go up from here!

That said, the first thing I’m going to mention is my attempt again this year at the 50 books in a year. I am actually going to count one that I finished over the weekend, because I meant to wait until this week to start it. I read Shadows of the Empire, which is a Star Wars book that comes between Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.

In the book we follow Leia, Luke, Lando, Chewy, Darth Vader, and a new character Xizor. The book, overall was a very fast read and I enjoyed the overall story. However, some of the writing I did not care for. It actually made me think of bad high school essay analogies at times, and at others the style just seemed childish, with lines like “They had already tried that. They told Luke.” Why not say, “They told look they had already tried that.” I suppose it just got on my nerves after the 30th time I read a line in that kind of format.

Overall, for a bargain find or library checkout, a decent and entertaining book. If you are looking for something a little better written, look elsewhere.

Next book up on the list is Sine Die by Matthew J. Levin, and I’ll let you know what I think of that one when I finish it.
